Lindsay Allman Named to All-America East First Team
Nov. 21, 2008
Orono, Maine - University of Maine senior outside hitter Lindsay Allman (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to the 2008 All-America East First Team on Thursday night at the annual conference awards banquet in Albany, N.Y. It marks the second conference selection she has earned over her career, being named to the America East All-Rookie team in 2005. Allman played in 103 sets in 26 matches for the Black Bears this season. Allman's play helped orchestrate the team's dramatic turn-around from a year ago, earning Maine 10 more wins than in 2007 and their first play-off berth since 2005. In addition to leading the Black Bears, Allman was sixth in the conference with 3.08 kills per set and 3.20 digs per set. She finished the season with 317 total kills and 330 digs, her second consecutive season with 300 or more kills and third straight season with over 300 digs. Allman's contributions went beyond her statistical presence as her powerful kills were able to change or end matches. In a late season contest with UMBC, Allman broke the back-and-forth scoring pattern in the fifth set with a kill that shattered the Retrievers momentum and caused UMBC to force an ill-fated attack that sealed the final set. Allman and the rest of the Black Bears will take on the Albany Great Danes on Friday, Nov. 21, in the semi-final match of the America East play-offs in Albany, N.Y. starting at 7 p.m. If Maine wins, the Black Bears will face either UMBC or Binghamton in the America East Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m.
