Volleyball Receives Two NLI's

Nov. 23, 2005

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine volleyball coach Lynn Atherley announced on Wednesday that her program has received National Letters of Intent from Amanda Armstrong and Jennifer Domer to attend the school starting in the fall of 2006.

Armstrong is a 6-1 middle hitter from Waukesha, Wis. As a senior at Waukesha West High School this past season, Armstrong earned honorable mention all-state honors leading her team to the playoffs. She was also named to a first-team all-conference selection. She is a member of the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club, which has competed in several national tournaments.

"Amanda is a powerful attacker in the middle," Atherley said. "She has had an outstanding high school career, which our coaching staff believes can carry over into the collegiate level."

Domer is a 6-0 right-side hitter from Manhattan Beach, Calif. Domer and her high school team at Mira Costa is currently competing in the California State Championship. Domer, who has received all-conference recognition, has been a vital contributor to her high school team which has competed for several state and national tournaments. She is a member of the South Bay Volleyball Club, which has competed in several national tournaments over the past few seasons.

"Jenn is an explosive and dynamic hitter who plays for one of the top high school teams in the nation," Atherley said. "Her experience in state and national tournaments will help her adjust to the college level."

The new recruits will join a Maine squad which qualified for the 2005 America East Tournament this season. The Black Bears closed out the regular season by winning 10 of their final 16 games and earning a third-seed for the conference tournament.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The early signing period began November 9 and ended November 19.
