Dartmouth Men, Texas Tech Women Win McDonald's Murray Keatinge Invitational

ORONO, Maine-- Texas Tech's Kevin Chelimo and Sally Kipyego were the individual winners at the 15th annual McDonald's Murray Keatinge Cross Country Invidual held on Saturday, September 30 at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. Dartmouth won the men's race with 40 points, while the Black Bears finished fourth as a team with 99 points. Texas Tech won the women's race with 27 points, while the Maine women finished seventh with a score of 165 points.

Following Dartmouth in the men's team standings were New Hampshire (67 points), Texas Tech (91), followed by Maine (99), Stony Brook (106), St. Francis Xavier (148), Vermont (171), Central Connecticut State University (249), Holy Cross (254) and Albany (254).

Kevin Chelimo of Texas Tech finished the race in 24:13.53. Steve Mucchetti of Dartmouth finished second in 24:29.77, while Brian Farrell of Stony Brook was the third finisher to cross the line in 24:31.43. Maine's Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was the top Black Bear to cross the finish line in 24:36.25. It was the top time in the history of the race for a Maine finisher. Jordan Horwitz of New Hampshire rounded out the top five with a time of 24:39.17.

Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was the second Maine finished to cross the line as he competed the race in 25:13.82, good enough for a 15th place finish. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 18th in 25:22.16. David Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) was 37th in 25:58.01. Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Black Bears with a 39th place finish in 26:01.68.

Texas Tech won the women's race with 27 points followed by New Hampshire (94), Dartmouth (110), St. Francis Xavier (111), Vermont (122), Stony Brook (133), Maine (165), Albany (166), Holy Cross (245) and Central Connecticut State University (286).

 

 

Kipyego won the race for Texas Tech in 16:11.82. It set a record for the fastest time in the history of the race. Irene Kimaiyo, also of Texas Tech, was second runner across the line as she finished in 16:51.05. New Hampshire's Catherine Parker was third in 16:53.60. Violet Chemakwila of Texas Tech was fourth in 17:16.67, while Stony Brook's Dana Hastie was fifth in 17:18.64.

Freshman Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was the top Maine finisher as she crossed the line 17th in a time of 18:02.52. Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) was the second Maine finisher as she placed 28th in 18:19.32. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was 37th in 18:42.74, while Shelby Howe (Colombia, Maine) finished 40th in a time of 18:52.13. Jolene Belanger (Glenburn, Maine) rounded out the scoring for Maine as she placed 44th in 19:02.50.

The Maine cross country teams both return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they compete in the New Englands in Boston, Mass.
