The Maine Women's Cross Country Team Finished Ninth in the Murray Keatinge Invitational on Saturday

ORONO, Maine-- The Dartmouth College men's cross country team won the 13th annual Murray Keatinge Cross Country Invitational held on Saturday, October 3 at the University of Maine, while the Southern Methodist University women's team took top honors in the women's race. The Black Bears finished fourth in the men's race, while the Maine women were ninth. The fourth place finish for the Maine men is believed to be the top team finish in the history of the race. Michael Lansing (Lovell, Maine) was the top Maine finisher as he completed the five mile course in 24:45.30 to place 10th. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was the top Black Bear in the women's race as she finished the 5K run in 18:26.70 to place 33rd.

In the men's race, Dartmouth won with 35 points followed by Brown (48), Iowa (61), Maine (111), New Hampshire (155), Dalhousie University (180), Colgate (196), Queens (214), Vermont (279), Holy Cross (280), and Central Connecticut (305).

Brown runner Patrick Tarpy won the race in a time of 24:19.50, while teammate Jeff Gaudette finished right behind him in a time of 24:25.80. University of Iowa's Matt Esche finished third in 24:30.60, while Dartmouth runners Ben True (24:31.70) and Dave Burnham (24:36.20) were the next pair to cross the finish line. Eric MacTaggart finished sixth for Brown in a time of 24:36.70, while Dartmouth runners Noah Kaufman and Quinn Thomas finished seventh and eighth respectively in 24:38.60 and 24:38.90.

Michael Lansing was the top Maine finisher in 10th place followed by Jeffrey Caron (Auburn, Maine) who was 19th in 25:11.50. Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) finished the course in 25:14.70 to place 21st. Edward Caron (Topsham, Maine) was 27th in 25:32.70, while Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was 44th in 26:04.60. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 49th in 26:15.80, while Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) rounded out the scoring for Maine when he finished 70th in a time of 26:55.40.

In the women's race, Southern Methodist University won with 35 points followed by Boston College (72), Dartmouth (74), Iowa (109), Dalhousie (113), New Hampshire (122), Brown (152), Holy Cross (277), Maine (283), Queens (289), Vermont (296) and Central Connecticut (346).

 

 

SMU's Karin Van Booyen won the race in a time of 17:02.90, the fifth best time in the history of the race. Dalhousie's Janice Ashworth was second in 17:05.20, which tied for the sixth best finish in history. Marie Cicera of Boston College was third in 17:10.40, while SMU's Rachael Forish was fourth in 17:17.50. Iowa's Nikki Chapple was fifth in 17:18.30, while Dartmouth's Melanie Schroff finished the course in 17:25. Jessica Jackson of SMU was seventh in 17:25.40. 10. BC's Laurel Burdick was eighth in 17:25.50, while SMU's Nicole Kelleher placed ninth in 17:31.40.

Hana Pelletier was the top runner for the Black Bears, while Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) was the second Black Bears to cross the finish line in 19:12.20. Miranda Szwec (Bangor, Maine) was 68th in 19:22.80, while Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) was 76th in 19:35.60. Charlotte Howley (Wilton, Maine) finished in 20:02.00 to cross 85th, while Brie Jellison (Ellsworth, Maine) was 90th in 20:12.80. Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Black Bears as she finished 98th in 20:43.70.
