Cross Country Teams Compete at New Englands This Past Weekend

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed at the New England Championships on Saturday in Boston, Mass. The women's team finished 11th out of 44 teams, while the men placed 19th out of 43.

Sophomore runner Jessica Belliveau was the highest finisher on the women's side as she placed second out of 299 runners with a time of 17:53. It marked the second-straight week and the third time in four races this season she has been the top finisher for Maine. Another Black Bear runner who did well was sophomore Elonnai Hickok, who finished in 24th place with a time of 18:57. The third Black Bear to place among the top 100 runners was freshman Chelsea Leeman, who placed 68th in 19:38.

On the men's side, a pair of runners finished in the top 100, including sophomore Miles Bartlett who took 26th in a time of 25:53. The other Black Bear to do so was Christopher Harmon, who placed 98th in 26:46.

Both teams return to action in two weeks on Oct. 27, when they compete in the 2007 America East Championships in Sunken Meadow, N.Y.
