![]() Maine Competes in America East Championship

VESTAL, N.Y. - The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2005 America East Championships held at Binghamton University on Saturday. In the men's race, Kirby Davis took the individual title with a time of 25:38. Maine finished third overall, while the Black Bears were seventh in the women's race. Heather Jovanelli was the top women's finisher for Maine in tenth place. In the men's race, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) finished the 8,000 meter course first overall with a time of 25:38, nearly 21 seconds faster than the second place finisher, becoming the first Maine runner to take individual honors in the conference. Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was sixth overall in 26:07. Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) was 18th overall in 26:53, followed in 19th place by Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) in 26:54. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 27th with a time of 27:11. Ty Alexander (Richmond, Vt.) was 37th in 27:42 and Michael Dabrieo (Sanford, Maine) was 43rd in 28:04 to round out Maine's point scorers. Also competing for Maine were David Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) with a time of 28:11 and David Woods finishing in 28:20. Maine's Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) finished with a time of 19:03 on the 5,000 meter course to finish tenth overall. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was 22nd overall in 19:44, followed by Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) in 36th place with a time of 20:32. Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) was 41st in 21:09 and Erin Lawler (Waterville, Maine) was 44th in 21:09 to round out the top seven scorers. Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) had a time of 21:21 and Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) had a time of 21:24 for Maine.
The men's race was won by UMBC with 52 points, followed by New Hampshire (62), Maine (71), Boston University (91), Albany (103), Vermont (165), Stony Brook (180), Binghamton (194) and Hartford (280). Boston University won the women's race with 40 points, followed by Stony Brook (56), New Hampshire (89), Binghamton (103), Vermont (137), Albany (142), Maine (153), UMBC (192) and Hartford (264). Next up for the Black Bears will be the NCAA Regionals, which will be held on November 12 in Boston's Franklin Park.
