Cross Country Ends Season At NCAA Regionals

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2005 NCAA Regional Meet held in Boston's Franklin Park on Saturday. In the men's race, Kirby Davis was the top Maine finisher in 29th place, while Heather Jovanelli was the top finisher for the women in 64th place. The Maine men finished 20th overall, while the Black Bears were 26th in the women's race. In the men's race, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) finished the course with a time of 31:08. Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was the second Maine finisher in 74th place with a time of 31:59, followed by Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) in 32:06 for 76th place overall. Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) was the next Black Bear to cross the finish line with a time of 33:40 for 140th place. Tyler Alexander (Richmond, Vt.) was 158th overall in 34:04, while Michael Dabrieo (Sanford, Maine) finished in 34:10 for 164th place. The Black Bear's Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) finished with a time of 22:28 on the course. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was 95th overall with a time of 23:00. Next to finish for Maine was Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) with a time of 24:20 for 186th overall. Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) finished with a time of 24:32 for 195th place, while Erin Lawler (Waterville, Maine) was 199th with a time of 24:58. Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) crossed the line in 25:08 for 214th overall.
The men's race was won by Iona, with the women's race being won by Boston College. The meet concluded the 2005 cross country season for the Black Bears.
