America East Cross Country Preseason Poll Released

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine men's cross country team was picked tied for third while the women's team was selected fifth in the America East Preseason Coaches' Polls on Tuesday. The Black Bear men received 41 points and the women 39 in a vote of the conferences nine head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. The men's team returns three runners who placed in the top 25 at the America East Championship meet last season. Junior Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) came in 12th, junior Christopher Harmon (Scarborough, Maine) placed 17th and senior Charles Therriault (Clinton, Mass.) came in 23rd. The women's team returns three runners who came in the top 30 at the league championship meet last season. Junior Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) came in sixth, junior Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) placed 23rd and junior Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) came in 26th. On the men's side, New Hampshire was picked to win the title with 61 points and five first-place votes. Stony Brook was second with 59 points and three-first place votes. UMBC received one first-place vote and was tied with Maine for third with 41 points. Binghamton was fifth with 39 points, followed by Boston University with 38 points and Albany with 20 points. Vermont was selected eighth with 17 points and Hartford rounded the poll in ninth with eight points. On the women's side, Stony Brook was selected as the favorite with 63 points and seven first-place votes. Boston University, which received the other two first-place votes, and New Hampshire were tied for second with 52 points. Binghamton was fourth with 40 points followed by Maine with 39. Albany was selected sixth with 25 points while UMBC was a close seventh with 24 points. Vermont received 20 points for eighth and Hartford rounded out the poll in ninth with nine points.
The men's and women's cross country teams begin their seasons on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the America East Pre-Race in Baltimore, Md.
