Cross Country Hosting Murray Keatinge Invitational On Saturday

Sept. 30, 2008

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine cross country teams are hosting the annual Murray Keatinge Invitational on Saturday. The races begin at 10 a.m. with the women's race and continue with a 10:45 a.m. start for the men. Both champions from last year's meet, the Duke women and New Hampshire men, highlight a very strong field.

Among the runners participating in the race, there are several with Maine ties. Ben True (North Yarmouth, Maine) was a Maine high school standout for Greely. During his tenure at Dartmouth, he has been named an All-American in cross country, outdoor track and field and cross country skiing. He has also run a sub-four minute mile and holds Dartmouth school-records in three events.

Also competing for Dartmouth is former Ellsworth High School standout Corey DeWitt. He follows in a family tradition of outstanding runners.

For the Black Bears, there are several outstanding runners competing from Maine. On the men's side, Riley Masters from Bangor and Miles Bartlett from Casco will be running. On the women's side, Hilary Maxim from Old Town and Vanessa Letourneau from Fairfield highlight the participants.

"It's nice to have both defending champions in the New Hampshire men and Duke women coming back this year," said Maine cross country head coach Mark Lech. "I am also looking forward to having Ben True, one of the best runners ever from Maine, coming back to run in the race. It should be very competitive with all the great teams coming this year."

Teams competing in this year's race on the women's side include: #25 Boston College, Dartmouth, #20 Duke, Holy Cross, Maine, New Hampshire, Yale and the University of New Brunswick.
